Why do you charge admission fees for competitive leagues and/or tournaments and what drives the cost?

Admission fees (along with team registration fees) cover the costs of operating the league or tournament. Operating costs are higher for competitive tournaments relative to most school, church or recreational leagues. Our competitive leagues and tournaments do not benefit from tax dollars or charitable support, and we therefore must cover the full operating costs of leagues and tournaments, which include:

  • Referees
  • Scorekeepers
  • Trainers (when applicable)
  • Admissions staff
  • Facility set-up, cleaning and re-set
  • Registration and league/tournament software
  • League/tournament management (scheduling, brackets, issue resolution)
  • Operating costs for Carolina Courts facilities (includes mortgage, property taxes, insurance, computer & phone systems, utilities, landscaping, maintenance, repairs, equipment and customer service personnel)
  • Rent and supervisor fees for any use of outside (non-Carolina Courts) facilities such as school or church gymnasiums

How do your admission fees compare to similar leagues or tournaments?

For leagues or tournaments that are run by Carolina Courts, we strive to keep our admission fees at or below comparable leagues or tournaments. We constantly monitor admission fees at other competitive leagues and tournaments.

What happens to any net profits?

Our competitive leagues and tournaments are managed by Carolina Rise, a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Any remaining net proceeds from admission fees, after covering expenses, are retained by Carolina Rise and utilized to provide needs-based athletic scholarships in our local communities. The scholarship application for Carolina Rise is available at www.carolinacourts.com.
